Living near the beach is like being in paradise but that salt can cause corrosion on just about any metal surface. Sometimes just a quick inspection while getting routine maintenance can catch a problem before it becomes an expensive one.
We commonly see wiring harnesses corrode from the inside out. The same with switches and of course, battery terminals, which are the most common. It’s no fun when you turn a switch or the key and nothing happens.
When it comes to routine maintenance, moving parts like the steering rack, brake cables, and suspension pivot points need to be lubricated every 3 to 6 months with silicone spray or grease to stop rust-induced squeaks.
One of most overlooked items we see are brakes
Usually, people do not pay much attention to the golf cart brakes, but it is important to have an efficient and functioning brake system to reduce injury. You need to inspect your brakes every few months. Your brake pads, drums, and cables all need to be checked and even adjusted to keep them working correctly.
And something you probably didn’t know about battery replacement. They usually don’t all go dead at the same time.
When you need to replace your golf cart batteries, it is best to replace all the batteries at one time. If you just replace one, with older ones still in use, they will reduce the new battery’s life. The older batteries take a longer time to charge than the new ones, and eventually, you will shorten the life of the new ones by continued overcharging.
